Difference Day
I became involved in this difference day project when my close friend Hubie asked me if I wanted to help build an outdoor shelter for people in Ballymun. It quickly made myself available and the day came around pretty quick.
I started the day by meeting my good friends Hubie, Sean and Hugo at the Luas station in Carrick mines where we would be getting a lift with our instructors for the day, Dennis and Morris. We left straight away and when we arrived in Ballymun we got straight to work. First we had to dig 8 deep holes into the ground, after that we carried planks of wood from a truck into the garden. We then made cement to hold the wood in each hole. Our last job was to dig more holes to put large cut-off pieces of tree trunks into which would be used as seats, but instead I helped Morris drill, measure and cut the rest of the wood which would be used for the roof of the shelter.
The whole day was really fun and everyone helped out, it also felt really good because we did a nice thing and now there is a shelter for people in Ballymun inside a lovely public garden.
